Between 2007 and 2010, white households had a median net worth of about $135,000 while the median black household net worth stood under $6,000. As the United States continues to reckon with these disparaging wealth gaps, we want our film to look at the familial and generational experiences behind this figure.
While the film is partly a memoir to generational motherhood, it's also about how Salome and I are molded by the journeys of our descendants. As we delve deeper into our matrelinial history, we then have to wrestle how its legacy presently molds our identities and actions. Ultimately, these conversations across generations provide my sister and I realizations about ourselves as well as how to reshape our respective paths forward.
